On Friday 13th November 2020, a memorial artwork was placed to commemorate a woman whose life had been viciously cut short in November 1980. She was the final woman killed by a renowned misogynistic killer who had terrorised women in Yorkshire over many years.
In response to feedback and enquiries following the siting of a memorial plaque, we decided to honour those women, as their names are rarely spoken unlike their notorious murderer. We intend that there will be a lasting memorial to them, a focus for contemplation and to encourage work to eliminate violence against women and girls.
Our objectives are simple:
1) to raise funds for a dedicated memorial
2) To identify a suitable site
3) To call for ideas and submissions for the work
4) To commission an artist to undertake the work
In doing this we will work together honouring the wishes of the families of the women.
